FAQs

What forms of payment do you accept?

I accept private pay and offer a discount for paying at the time of service. I am currently out-of-network for all insurance plans. I can provide you with a super bill and support with reimbursement. I am working on becoming in-network with several insurance plans, so check back soon for additional payment options.

Does my child or teen need speech-language therapy?

We can find out together! As a mom who is navigating decision making during the information age of parenting, I understand the conflicting advice that is given to parents. I also understand the unfair pressure our culture places on children to meet developmental milestones. I welcome these conversations and encourage you to schedule a free consultation so we can talk through your concerns. I will help you feel empowered to take the next step. Whether that means beginning an Evaluation or gathering more information, we can come up with a plan together that meets the needs of your child and your family. Schedule a free 20 minute consultation and we can discuss your concerns, get to know each other, and determine the best plan for you.

Does teletherapy work for kids?

I have a lot of fun using technology and connecting with kids through Zoom. I take full advantage of the amazing tools that are available. I create green screen adventures, virtual field trips, dance parties, games, and more. The most important tool, however, is the relationship I build by following children’s interests and sharing joy. We can work together to build a fun experience that is effective and individualized to meet your child’s speech and language therapy goals. Contact me to learn more and schedule a free consultation to find out if Jennybird Speech & Language teletherapy would be a good fit for your child.

Can Parents / Caregivers participate in or observe sessions?

Most definitely! Parent, caregiver, and even sibling involvement is always encouraged. I offer parent coaching and education within my therapy sessions. You can also book a separate appointment and meet with me 1:1 to deeply dive into your questions or access more specific parent coaching. I also know parents wear so many hats in their child’s life and sometimes they just need a break during therapy sessions. I will always be flexible and work with you where you are!

Do you collaborate with our school Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) and special education team?

Absolutely! Coming from the schools, I know how helpful it is to have a community provider’s input and collaboration when updating Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or helping families to support a child’s education and communication at home. I am happy to consult directly with your child’s team, or share reports and documentation.

What is the benefit of community speech-language therapy if my child is already seeing a Speech Therapist at their school?

A school’s speech-language therapy focus is on the impact a disability is having on a student’s education and removing barriers for them to access a free and appropriate education. I can offer support for all of the environments a child navigates and can help bridge the gap between school and home. I can provide more intensive skill building and parent/caregiver education, which may not always be provided at school. As a crucial member of the Jennybird team, you will have full access to the therapy plans that are created, documentation of progress, and see the magic that happens in a speech-language therapy session.

I can also help a family by providing insights and resources for the school-based eligibility and IEP processes for special education services. For example, I am able to share evaluations with school personnel, consult with the school SLP, and provide caregiver education about IDEA, FAPE, and Oregon special education laws.

Additionally, if your child is enrolled in a private school or daycare, I am able to work with and travel to your child’s school to provide speech-language services. This allows children to avoid missing valuable instruction time on transportation to and from therapy during the school day.

Can you see my child for teletherapy if I live in Washington?

At this time, I am only licensed in Oregon and you must be physically located in Oregon when you log in for teletherapy. If you would like to access my in-person services, I would be happy to work with you to meet at a location in Portland.

What computer requirements are needed to access teletherapy?

You will need to have a laptop or desktop computer with internet access. For the first session, you will be sent a link to Zoom. You can download Zoom ahead of time, or click the link to access our video meeting from your web browser. We can also schedule an in-person visit for me to help you set everything up and get to know you and your child.
